Following Monday’s announcement by the World Uyghur Congress’s Executive Chairman, Omer Kanat, and by Nury Turkel, Chairman of the Board of the Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP), that legislators have agreed to drop the term “Xinjiang” from the title of the “Xinjiang Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act” following immense pressure from the East Turkistani community, the East Turkistan National Awakening Movement (ETNAM) is formally announcing its conditional support for the bill, contingent on the bill’s acknowledgement that “the majority of the region’s inhabitants refer to the region as East Turkistan & view it as being under a state of military occupation by the People’s Liberation Army.”
While ETNAM does have points of disagreement with the World Uyghur Congress, we fundamentally agree on the urgent need for legislative action. ETNAM is fully prepared to rally its supporters worldwide in support of this newly-renamed “Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act,” which is important legislation that is desperately needed & long overdue. At present, the United Nations estimates that over one million Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, Uzbeks, and Tatars in Occupied East Turkistan are being arbitrarily detained in modern-day concentration camps. Unofficial figures put that number closer to three million. Credible reports describe widespread & systematic torture, rape, & the forced medication of those arbitrarily detained. Survivors have even described instances of organ harvesting from detainees.
We again call upon the Chinese government to immediately & without precondition release all East Turkistanis who have been arbitrarily detained. We also call upon the Chinese government to permanently end its military occupation of East Turkistan, withdrawing all military personnel & hardware to the borders of the area incorrectly referred to as the “Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region,” or “XUAR.”
We again call upon the United States & all civilized nations to impose strong, targeted sanctions (including under the Global Magnitsky Act) against the officials responsible for these atrocities, including against members of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese Communist Party, and the state security & intelligence apparatuses, including upon Chen Quanguo (CPP Party Secretary for Occupied East Turkistan), upon Zhao Kezhi (Minister of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China), & upon Chen Wenqing (Minister of State Security for the People’s Republic of China).
Furthermore, we call upon the United States & all civilized nations to recognize East Turkistan as a “captive nation,” acknowledging that these concentration camps are a brutal & inhumane means of depriving the people of Occupied East Turkistan of their Independence.
Lastly, we call upon all people, worldwide, to engage in a peaceful information war against Communist China by educating others about the human rights atrocities being perpetrated against Occupied East Turkistan’s oppressed people.
