MEDIA ADVISORY: Demonstration Commemorating the Baren Massacre

WHEN: Friday, April 5th, 2019
WHERE: White House (1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, D.C., 20500)
WHY: Demonstration commemorating 29th Anniversary of China’s Massacre of Uyghurs after 250 forced abortions of Uyghur babies led to massive demonstrations (the “Baren Massacre”); demonstrating coinciding with Chinese delegation’s visit to White House for ongoing trade talks

The East Turkistan National Awakening Movement (ETNAM) will be holding a nonviolent demonstration from 1PM – 3PM on Friday, April 5th, 2019, outside the White House, to peacefully commemorate the 29th Anniversary of the Baren Massacre, in which Chinese Occupation forces murdered thousands of Uyghurs who were demonstrating against the Chinese Communist Party’s policy of forced abortions of East Turkistani babies, and to strongly condemn China’s ongoing human rights atrocities, especially against women and children. ETNAM welcomes the participation of pro-life and feminist activists.

This demonstration will coincide with the visit of the Chinese trade delegation to the White House for ongoing trade talks. We will be calling on the United States government to halt these trade talks and precondition all future negotiations on an end to China’s genocidal policies against East Turkistanis. Further engagement with a nation imprisoning millions of innocent people in abhorrent concentration camps would constitute appeasement in the face of genocide.

Furthermore, we will again be calling on the United States & all civilized nations to impose strong sanctions (including under the Global Magnitsky Act) against the officials responsible for these atrocities, including against members of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese Communist Party, and the state security & intelligence apparatuses, including Chen Quanguo (CPP Party Secretary for Occupied East Turkistan), Zhao Kezhi (Minister of Public Security of the PRC), & Chen Wenqing (Minister of State Security for the PRC).

In light of security concerns and the possibility of Chinese agents provocateur attempting to sabotage our peaceful gathering, we are specifically requesting that all attendees refrain from wearing masks or face- coverings of any type. Participants who fail to adhere to this request will be asked to leave.
